Carrying all your skincare products is not ideal when you only have limited luggage space so streamlining your routine is a must when traveling. It can be tough to narrow down your skincare essentials, so we asked a skin expert what her travel must-haves are.
Dermatologist Dr. Anna Palabyab-Rufino shares with us the top 5 skincare items she always travels with and a few skincare tips that will keep your skin happy and healthy throughout your trip.
“It depends on where you’re traveling to but number one on my list—whether it’s sunny or cold, cloudy or snowy—is sunscreen for sure. You can choose different consistencies: a lighter, matte finish if you’re going somewhere humid or it could be thicker and more moisturizing if you’re going somewhere cold and dry,” she shares.
The next one is a mild facial wash. We suggest a travel-friendly cleansing stick like Neogen Real Fresh Cleansing Stick Green Tea, a gentle cleanser that contains real green tea leaves. Moisturizer is also an important product in her travel bag. “Depending on where I’m going, I have lighter and heavier [moisturizers]. Your skin can get dry as soon as you get on the plane, so sometimes when it’s a long haul flight, I like to put on a mask,” says Dr. Anna.
A spot treatment is fourth on her list. “I always bring an emergency pimple cream or gel like Benzoyl Peroxide,” she says. Finally, she brings a lip balm to keep her lips hydrated. “Don’t forget your lips when you go out as well because sometimes, you put sun protection all over but you forget the lips. They also burn and they get chapped. Start with moisturization as soon as get on the plane.”
