Have you ever put on makeup only to find blotchy spots forming around your nose and other areas of your face afterwards? We feel you. Foundation is a mainstay of every beauty girl’s makeup routine. But between being overzealous with the application and using the wrong technique, things can get awry pretty quickly, leaving you with a mask-like finish.

There are a few steps you can do to have your foundation looking natural and skin-like, almost like you’re not wearing any makeup at all. Read on to find out how.
The game-changing step in achieving the most natural-looking foundation begins even before you put on your makeup. The trick is to prep the skin, so you don't have to pile too much makeup on. With this approach, you're saving more product and enhancing your complexion.
Start with a hydrating sheet mask like Innisfree’s My Real Squeeze Mask - Green Tea on freshly cleansed and toned skin. Then follow it up with a moisturizing gel like Pond's Flawless Radiance Derma+ Mattifying Day Cream (if you have oily skin) or cream like Pond's Flawless Radiance Derma+ Moisturizing Day Cream (if you have dry skin).
The most common foundation mistake is applying a lot more makeup than you actually need. Start with a light layer of tinted moisturizer or BB cream like Pond's Flawless Radiance Derma+ BB Cream all over the skin to even out the complexion. Then apply another light layer of either a lightweight foundation or a full coverage concealer like NYX’s Gotcha Covered Concealer, but this time, concentrating only on areas where you need more coverage like blemishes, redness around the nose, and under the eyes.
Bonus Tip: After applying foundation, dampen your beauty sponge with a face or toner mist like the COSRX AHA/BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner and gently dab it over your makeup to remove any harsh lines or dry patches.
